About Us

Samadrushti Charitable Trust was establised on 23rd March 2016 for the welfare and upliftment of differently-abled people India. SAKSHAM (Samadrishti Kshamata Vikas Evam Anusandhan Mandal) is its parent organization, which is a national organisation headquartered in Nagpur, Maharashtra. One of its main objectives is to catalyze all steps for preventing and mitigating Corneal Blindness. Sakshama in Kerala was formed in 2008 (Reg No. ER648/2008), following which a District level organisation was constituted later at Kozhikode district, with the same objectives. Sakshama-Keralam has presence in almost all the districts of Kerala, with a centre in each of the districts of Palakkad, Ernakulam, and Thiruvananhapuram,. All these centres are involved in assisting differently-abled persons, and making them self reliant.

In India, according to the Census 2011 ( 2016 updated ) , out of the population 121 crores, the number of differently-abled people was 2.68 crores, which is 2.21 % of the total population. Out of this, the majority of differently-abled people, 1.86 crore people ( 69% ), resided in rural areas and the balance 0.81 crore ( 31% ) resided in urban areas. Number of persons who are differently abled is highest in the age group of 10 to 19 years.

The Trust aims to provide the differently abled persons access to the physical environment; transportation, information and communication including information technology and other facilities/services which are open to the public, on equal terms with others. With this end in view, objectives and plans of the Trust have been framed in such a way as to enable it to work for moral, social, cultural, financial, educational and physical well-being of visually challenged and differently abled persons and co-operate and co-ordinate with similar other organisations. The Trust further aims at exploring opportunities for them to serve Governmental and Non-Governmental offices and institutions, as also establish, maintain and carry on suitable Institutions or Centres for education and vocational training, Education Centres, project development Centres, Libraries and Care Centres.

The Trust is authorized to receive and collect gifts, subscriptions and donations either in cash or in kind, towards fulfilment of all or any of its aims and objectives.

With President, Sakshama – Kozhikode and its Secretary as permanent members, the Trust has 15 Trustees, including its Chairman. All trustees are educated, experienced and socially committed to the cause of uplifting the differently-abled in the society.

Our Mission

Our Vision

The Trust is empowered to receive and collect gifts, subscriptions and donations either in cash or in kind, or acquire by any other lawful ways and means and spend the same for fulfilment of all or any of its aims and objectives. The Trust can also take over, absorb or amalgamate with any other Trust or association or institution whose objectives are similar to the objectives of the Trust. The income and properties of the Trust are for the fulfilment of its objectives to all who are eligible irrespective of caste, religion, sex etc but any portion thereof cannot be used to pay by way of profit or dividend or bonus to the office bearers or the members of the Trust.

INITIATIVES/ACTIVITIES OF THE TRUST AND SAKSHAMA, KOZHIKODE

The area of operation of the Trust shall be within the territories of India.

Sakshama Keralam is striving to bring hopes in the lives of the unfortunate brothers and sisters, and to instil self confidence in them. Its Kozhikkode unit and Samadrushti Charitable Trust, together, have been carrying out the following activities.

CAMBA (Cornea Andhatv Mukth Bharath Abhiyan)

Corneal Blindness, is now curable. CAMBA is a mission launched by SAKSHAM for preventing and mitigating Corneal Blindness. CAMBA has been fully endorsed and taken up in a big way by both Sakshama and the Trust. Under this program, the Trust encourages people to donate their eyes. This can be done either by executing a declaration of willingness by the person concerned during their life time or by the family members of the deceased. Sakshama also utilizes the service of Eye Banks working round the clock for this purpose. Through this program, it was possible recently to give eye sight in the lives of 6 blind persons in Kozhikode district.

Her Holiness Amma, Sri Mata Amruthanandamayi Devi has blessed the efforts under CAMBA. The Amritha Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, Cochin, Kerala has a Memorandum of Understanding with Sakshama – Keralam to support the programmes under CAMBA. The Trust and Sakshama organises Eye donation awareness campaigns regularly. This year the program was held on 30th August, 2019 at the Amrutha Institute of Medical Sciences, Cochin in which families of the Cornea donors were honoured and thousands of the Amrutha family volunteered to donate eyes, signing the consent letter for the same.

Key Activity of the Trust

The Trust presently runs a skill development centre “Samadrushti”, at Pantheerankavu, Kozhikode out of a small rented building. This step, taken essentially as a move towards enabling self-sustenance for persons living with disabilities, was inaugurated in June, 2018. The “Samadrushti” centre has been set up for:

Training for skill development activities with raw materials provided by the Trust;
Providing free temporary accommodation, food, medical and other facilities to trainees who are all from poor families;
The training facilities are also open to local women who are having any of the disabilities mentioned in the Rights of Persons with Disabilties Act, 2016;
To take care of the requirements by the trainees, the Trust employs 4 persons, 3 of whom are women, i.e., the secretary, cook and night attendant.
The Trust meets the entire expenses of this centre, approximately Rs 50,000/- per month, through donations.

Presently at the Samadrushti centre, the Trust carries out capacity building for production of:

  • Agarbathi
  • Umbrellas
  • Door mats
  • Paper pens

The centre also engages in other activities like organising programmes of devotional music.

NEEDS

Construction of Sakshama Bhavan, Pantheerankavu.

Our immediate focus in this journey to empower people living with disabilities is to expand the scope and increase activities of our “Samadrushti” centre. The Trust has received 20 cents of land, located at Pantheerankavu, only 10 kms from Kozhikode city, as donation to the Trust from a generous, well wisher couple. The Trust plans to construct “Sakshama Bhavan” to dedicate it to the cause of the visually challenged and differently abled.
With the construction of Sakshama Bhavan, the Trust plans to :
  • to shift the skill development centre from the rented place to a permanent place with more activities, better amenities, enhanced services and support.
  • The first phase of the “Sakshama Bhavan” would have a total plinth area of 890.88 Meter Sq.
“Sakshama Bhavan” will have
  • dormitory facilities for the poor, differently abled women trainees
  • space for self-employment training centres and
  • spaces earmarked for Projects suitable for developing employment opportunities for the differently-abled.
  • The proposed “Sakshama Bhavan” is planned as a “SevaMandiram”, with temporary residential facilities for visually challenged/ differently abled persons.
  • Besides, the Trust also plans to make provision for a temporary shelter, for employed, visually challenged/ differently abled persons.
  • At present, the work of construction of the compound wall of the site is in progress.

The Board of Samadrusthi Charitable Trust at present comprises 15 members, including the Chairman, who are all continuously engaged in various activities intended for the up-lifting of the differently abled members in the society.
